Come be a part of innovating for Lake Erie and get ready to hack! Join dozens of engineers, designers, water experts, conservationists, enthusiasts and developers from across the region to work for our most precious natural resource. Engage new team members or find a team to join through listening to rapid-fire pitches. Interface with environmental and tech mentors in an open-format collaboration space designed to maximize the impact and longevity of your solutions. Be a part of the growing Blue Economy movement that is revolutionizing the Great Lakes region. Lunch and snacks on us. The challenge statements have been issued—will you accept? Team registration closes on March 24.

About Erie Hack
Erie Hack: Innovate Around the Lake is an international, tech-driven water innovation competition and accelerator program that focuses on creating publicly accessible mobile apps, open data and new technology to elevate the value of clean water and leverage its potential to drive economic vitality. The finalists will compete for $100,000 in prize money.

Presented by Cleveland Water Alliance, the Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation, Wayne State University and TechTown.  Collaborators include: GE, NASA Glenn Research Center, IBM, DigitalC, Great Lakes Observing System, NSF International, FreshWater Forum of the Cranbrook Institute of Science, WEtech Alliance, Venture Michigan, Mobile Technology Association of Michigan, Michigan's University Research Corridor and GreeningDetroit.com.  Learn more about Erie Hack here.

Immigration Workshop: Surviving and Thriving in an Era of Uncertainty

Ellis Porter, a metro Detroit immigration law firm, is partnering with TechTown, Global Detroit and Innovation Warriors at Wayne State University to engage in a conversation about the current state of immigration policy in America and where we’re headed. Ellis Porter’s principal attorneys Marc Topoleski and Shaju Jacob will discuss new immigration-related Executive Orders and answer questions about how these Executive Orders impact Detroit’s start-up and small business community. Light supper will be served.

Wix User Meet Up: Pro Tips for Selling Your Products or Services Online

We’re hosting the experts from Detroit Wix as they share pro tips on how to maximize product sales and bookings online. Learn how to use the e-commerce features of Wix sites, syncing your social media and third-party apps like Shopify, as well as how to use different Wix Apps and add-ons. Wix allows users to build stunning websites with no coding experience. Bring your laptops and tablets to take notes and follow along with the demo. Bring your questions—they’ll have answers! Jennyfer Crawford, founder of Ask Jennyfer, will be on hand to share her tips on selling out events—like her hugely popular All Things Detroit.

Chow: Mac-n-Cheese Edition

Who doesn’t like mac-n-cheese?! Join us as we host Lester Gouvia, TechTown SWOT City client, founder/executive chef of Norma G’s food truck and soon-to-open Jefferson Chalmers brick and mortar location. Lester will show us the basic techniques of making macaroni and cheese from scratch. From roux to white sauce to choice of cheese, you’ll be able to wow them at the next potluck. He’ll share the history of the recipes that will take the plate at Norma G’s. We’ll cook and then taste the fruits of our labor. This event is free and open to the public. Class size is limited to 30 people: first come, first served, so RSVP and plan to attend. If you need to cancel, please let us know so we can open up the seat. Bon Appétit!
