E-mail Print

Anthony Garrett-Leverett was born on March 14th, 1972 in Detroit, Michigan.  Mr. Garrett-Leverett graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Taylor Michigan in 1990.  Anthony earned his Bachelors in Science in 1996, and Masters of Liberal Studies in 1997 at Eastern Michigan University.

As a student he was the president of the Black Student Union, and Graduate Assistant for the Multicultural Center where he served as Coordinator for the Young African American Professional Leadership Conference.  As a professional, Anthony has worked as a Senior Software Analyst for Compuware and most recently as a Trade Operations Coordinator for Federal-Mogul Corporation.

Anthony has been active with BDPA over the years.   First becoming a member in 1998, and serving in such roles as Corporate Champion at Compuware, the Detroit branch VP of Finance, HSCC volunteer, and Chapter President in 2007 – 08.  He also worked on the National BDPA newsletter “The Link” before taking a break from the organization.

Under his leadership as chapter President, BPDA-Detroit became the largest chapter in the country with 300 paid members.  In addition to becoming the largest chapter, his team decided to call TechTown home and becoming the first BDPA-Detroit administration to have a physical location to serve as headquarters, and host Information Exchange and committee meetings.  Most importantly upon his exit, the Detroit Chapter had over $12,000 in cash in the chapter coffers, $2000 more than when he took office.

He is the husband of Kimberly Lowell-Leverett, married since 2002.  Anthony also enjoys working on the weekends as a disc jockey, and coaching high school football.  Hobbies include collecting music, watching sports, and being socially and politically active in Southeastern Michigan.

Currently, Anthony is serving as a board trustee for Global Preparatory Academy located in Roseville, MI.  He has served in this role since 2006.  As Director of Technology, his school has two “one to one” computing models, an app for Mac and Android platforms, and an outstanding website.  In every classroom, each instructor has their own media station that allows each grease board to become an interactive screen for teaching.  His classrooms regularly Skype with other kids across the world, and kindergarten – 2nd grade students are learning Latin through software.  GPA is proudly one of; if not “the” most technologically advance school in Southeastern Michigan under his vision in creating a 21st century classroom.
